Staying young is a lifestyle. No, I’m not talking about a lifestyle of becoming Hugh Hefner or Mrs. Robinson, although more power to you. I’m talking about a lifestyle that simply makes you feel your best. Exploring, discovering and manifesting at any age is the ideal way to “anti-age.” But because you are only human, you’ve likely found yourself contemplating some non-conventional means to smooth a few lines and hide a few imperfections. You’re not alone, but let’s admit it: The silver fox just knowing he looks all silvery buying you a cocktail is a lot more attractive than Billy Botox barely able to crack a smile. Keeping it simple with some of Mother Nature’s treasures while taking preventative measures at each stage of life show fine lines that you are already fine!

Spring Chickens

This age brings two people: the late-night bar hopper and the young professional. Finding a healthy balance early in life is necessary while you are paving your future. The health patterns that you practice now will determine so much in your days ahead. Having said that, it is never too early to take care of your skin. The sun knows no boundaries and wrinkling, spotting and loss of elasticity, caused by exposure to the sun’s UV rays, begin the moment you don’t protect yourself. So, be sure to use an SPF product to protect your skin, especially your face and neck. Sun exposure isn’t the only thing that harms your skin. You look in the mirror, you see something and you attack it. When we pick at our skin early on, when our skin is ultra-sensitive, we increase the chance of serious scarring, so leave the extractions to the professionals. And, needless to say, smoking is bad! Somehow when we’re young, cigarettes always compliment the bar scene, but some of our impromptu decisions of puffing in the alley of the local pub may cause us to resemble leather in future years. The nicotine in cigarettes causes narrowing of the blood vessels in the outermost layers of the skin, impairing blood flow, which robs it of oxygen and important nutrients such as vitamin A. So, the next time your pal takes out the pack, go back inside and enjoy the music; your future self thanks you.

Middle Age Madness

Everyone has that moment when you’re in the dressing room of your favorite store and you look in the mirror to see a body part sagging more than it did last week. You look in disbelief as the dressing room attendant asks if you’d like a different size and you’re bewildered by your hanging limb. “When did that happen?” you ask yourself. There’s something to be said for an older, confident men and women who look like they care for themselves. It’s never too late to improve your health and appearance. Consider taking Omega-3, perfect for memory, and remind yourself how great life has been so far. A genuine smile and great attitude are always the youngest person in the room. Not feeling like that lately? Add a product to your regimen that includes retinol, be ultra food conscious and tame that stress. Another way to combat age? Stay current! Indulge in some of the newer trends, visit popular locations and, as much as possible, learn about new technology.

Thanks to modern media, I think the term “age appropriate” is long gone. Well, cheers to that! As humorous as some of these media trends are, they actually help us solidify that 50 is the new 30.
