June is Children’s health month at Care Resource. This is an opportunity to take further charge of your child’s health including physical, mental and social well-being. Most parents know the basics of keeping children healthy, like offering them healthy foods, making sure they get enough sleep and exercise and ensuring their safety. It is also important for children to get regular checkups with their health care providers. These visits are a chance to check your child’s development. They are also a good time to catch or prevent childhood problems. This month, new clients without Health Insurance can receive a free comprehensive check-up and sports physical. To redeem this promotion, one MUST first make an appointment. To make an appointment, call 305-576-1234 EXT: 470 (English) and 471 (Spanish).
Other than checkups, school-age children should be seen for:
- Significant weight gain or loss
- Sleep problems or change in behavior
- Fever higher than 102
- Rashes or skin infections
- Frequent sore throats
- Breathing problems
According to Alicia Fernandez-Garcia, MD, Pediatrician with Care Resource, “We want to make sure that children are advancing and developing their milestones correctly and they are achieving their schoolwork goals properly. Healthy development means that children of all abilities, including those with special health care needs, are able to grow up where their social, emotional and educational needs are met. Parents know their children best. If your child is not meeting the milestones for his or her age, or if you think there could be a problem with your child’s development, come into Care Resource and share your concerns. We provide quality pediatric care in underserved communities. Make your appointment today.”
